DRESSER MAKEOVER: HOT PINK

As few of you guessed, I did go with the dresser for this space. And I painted the dresser in HOT pink color and styled it with accessories that I had.
This was the dresser that I had picked it from a Vintage store. I picked it for the size. And of course, the price. $10.
One early Saturday morning, I removed the drawers, dusted it, wiped it clean with vinegar and water. Let it air dry for few hours. I removed the knobs too.
Then in the afternoon, painted the drawers in orange color that was left over first from this project and then from this project. You might see them in few more project in future since I still have some left....
I painted the inside as well the outside except the front of the drawer.
Leaving the paint to dry, I painted the dresser in pink, in semi-gloss. When I mentioned to Mr. Tweaks about my plan of using a pink color to the dresser, he did not object to it. It did surprise me.
Before painting, I had wiped it clean, sanded it and then wiped off the dust. Two coats later:
Once the orange paint dried, I taped the inside of the drawer with painter's tape and painted the front in pink.
I let them dry overnight in the garage. Those blue crepe papers hanging from the ceiling? No, we did not have a party here. Mr. Tweaks taped them as a visual marker that lets us to park the car without hitting the wall. Not that I have hit the wall. Just a precaution....that's what he says.
Next morning, we moved the dresser inside. Sorry about the blurry picture.
I had this gift wrapping paper in orange and white stripes, which I cut to size and used them as liner for the drawers.
The knobs that came with the dresser were the glass ones. These are sold for around $3 each. And these were in perfect condition. I removed the screws and gave them a spray of gold paint.
And I soaked the glass knobs in warm soap water, gave them a nice wash and dried. And they looked brand new. The gold paint made a difference to the screws.
The dresser fit in the space perfectly.
See the difference it makes when styled. Remember my painting that I found at the vintage store? It paired so well with the dresser.
This is what we see from the couch in the living room.

I shopped around the house and picked few of these accessories; Books, the potted plant, the elephant and the lantern.
 Few more pictures:
A reading chair would have been perfect for this space. But I am happy with this look for now.
The only expense for this dresser makeover was the paint.

And final before after picture for you all.
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
Reshma

  7. Wow, I really like the pink and orange combo on this! And the corresponding stripes really bring it together. And although a reading chair might have looked nice... this provides some storage in a really attractive way. Can't beat that!

    1. Terasa, I very much wanted a reading chair. Now I feel the pink brings in some color to room. Orange paint and the stripes wrapping paper was something I already had. So they got used....:-)
      Thanks for visiting.

    1. Kim, I was hesitant about the pink but then brushed aside thinking its just a paint, if I do not like it I can paint over it. Glad I did not have to drag the dresser to the garage.

  17. Hi. How much sanding and did u sand by hand or use a sander? I have to sand inside and feel a sander kicks up so much dust. If it’s already painted and there aren’t and scratches or divets, is sanding necessary? I’m starting with a matte paint in a light color and want to paint a semi gloss in a darker color over it. The inside of the drawers are unpainted, unfinished wood — would I treat that different? Ty
