BUILT-IN SHELVES MAKEOVER.

As mentioned in my previous post, I am sharing the built-in shelves makeover. This is how it looks now:
I would not say the makeover is complete. There are still few more tweaks to be worked on. I had left last post with the photo below:
Besides, I had mentioned about staining the top of the lower cabinet. The reason I did not paint the top in white as it would be the most used (abused) surface and I did not have to worry about the white paint getting dirty.  You can see the close-up of the stain here:
After the stain dried, I removed the doors of the lower cabinet; took them to the garage, painted with 2 coats of primer and then 2 coats of white paint. I let the primer and paint dry between coats.

I also painted the frame of the lower cabinet. I wanted to paint the interior of the cabinet a different color and decided to do it the following weekend. That weekend did come and pass by. And it's been 4 months since then.....
The hinges the cabinets had was brass, so I bought the nickel finish hinges from Lowes. And it was not a correct fit. We were having guests over later in the day and Mr. Tweaks wanted me to wrap up.

So I went ahead and reused the old hinges and hung the doors. Changing those hinges is a project that I do not executing soon.
You can see the new nickel hinge on the bottom and brass ones on the top of the door.

The project that calls for change is the smoke alarm that has turned to yellow over the years. As well, the ceiling light needs to be upgraded. There are couple more of these ceiling lights in the house that needs to go.
I did not want to clutter the shelves. Open space in shelves gets filled up in no time. So I have warned both the men in the house not to pile anything else on these shelves.
Few of the decor that are on these shelves are tweaks. I will share them with you. You do see the cellphone charging station that I had shared earlier.
The clay pots have been with me for years now and they went through couple of tweaks before their appearance here.
This is what you see when you climb the stairs and from the landing.

You do see the corner cabinet which I did not touch. I want that cabinet to be removed but Mr. Tweaks is not getting on board with this one. I will keep trying.

It's been sometime I used a before after picture.
Once I have the hinges changed, smoke alarm changed, the ceiling light upgraded and the interior of the lower cabinet painted and organized, I will call it complete.

Did you like this makeover? Do you prefer the covered cabinets or the open shelves?

Did you also prime the cabinate frames and then painted them just like the cabinates?
Did you have to sand cabinates/frames?
